Spouse Scholarship

 

 

 We are pleased to announce the 2010 Coast Guard Spouse Scholarship Awardee:

Kimberly A. Garriott of Chesapeake, Virginia

Eligibility:

 

v     Current spouses of active duty Coast Guard personnel.

v     The minimal education criteria is that the applicant must hold a high school diploma/GED and be enrolling/enrolled in an accredited institution for higher education.

v     Members of the Coast Guard, DHS, and/or DOD are not eligible for this scholarship.

 

Application:

 

An essay (500-1200 words) demonstrating applicant’s financial need, scholarly promise, dedication and collegiate/career aspirations. Essays should further present how the applicant intends to give back to the Coast Guard family community. The ideal applicant will also demonstrate altruism, philanthropy, and generosity, through some sort of Coast Guard community involvement. Such involvement can be in various forms from occasional contributions to a unit’s newsletter, serving as an Ombudsman, spouse association Board member, or volunteer in a related fashion that evidences support for the Coast Guard family at large.

 

Applications for the 2010 award year were accepted December 31, 2009, through April 30, 2010.

 

Scholarship amount will vary from $50 to $1,500. On an annual basis, the awards shall be dependent upon funding. Awardees may utilize scholarship funds for reimbursement of applications, tuition, fees, and school room, board, books, and testing (GRE, GMA, LSAT, etc.).
